Former Isoko South Local Government Council Chairman, Itiako Constantine Ikpokpo, has resigned and dumped the People’s Democratic Party, PDP with immediate effect.
Ikpokpo, generally known as Malik a strong advocate of Delta Unity Group, DUG, that projected and supported Olorogun David Edevbie at the 2023 governorship election lauded the PDP for giving him the opportunity to serve in the journey of 27-year.
In his resignation letter dated January 23, 2025, addressed to Irri Ward II, chairman, Mr. Samson Afeme, Ikpokpo revealed his total support and admirations for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led administration.
“Malik cited his unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the need to align with progressive leadership of the All Progressive Party as key reasons for his departure.
Tinubu as a the president is a courageous and visionary leader who has demonstrated the political will to reengineer Nigeria’s trajectory and the nation under Tinubu’s administration is undoubtedly on the path to recovery.
“Like none before him, Mr. President has demonstrated the courage and political willpower to reengineer the nation’s trajectory,” he wrote. He further emphasized that after extensive consultations with political leaders and associates across various divides, the decision to support Tinubu’s administration became a compelling necessity.”
Ikpokpo decision is long expected as in his recent interview, he revealed that he never supported the Governor Sheriff Oborevwori during the 2023 elections and this has caused political discussions in Delta State and his move could signify a shift in political alignments within the region.
Known for his influence in the Isoko area, Malik’s endorsement of Tinubu’s leadership is likely to have ripple effects on local and national political dynamics.
Malik resignation is currently stirring up Isoko nation, Delta South Senatorial District and Delta State as more political big wig are on the verge of dumping the PDP in Isoko in no distance time.
When contacted, Ikpokpo a traditional title holder from six Isoko nation who confirmed his resignation from PDP, said “very true sir.”
